A dripping faucet, a toilet that runs all night or a sink that takes minutes to drain is easy to live with for a while. The trouble is that plumbing problems don't stay the same size. A drip wastes water every hour, a slow drain becomes a blocked one, and a small leak can soak a cabinet or stain a ceiling before anyone notices.
This guide explains what our plumbing service covers, how a visit works, which problems shouldn't wait, and what you can do before we arrive.
What our plumbing service is, and what it isn't
We handle the everyday plumbing repairs and fixture installations that most homes need at some point. That means finding the cause of a problem, repairing or replacing the part that failed, and installing the faucets, toilets and fixtures you've chosen.
Our focus is on repairs and installations inside the home. We don't take on large projects such as main sewer line work or re-piping a whole house. If your problem turns out to need that kind of work, we'll tell you plainly so you can call the right specialist.
How the service works
- You call us. Describe what's happening and where. Photos or a short video help.
- We give you an estimate. You'll know roughly how long the job will take and what it will cost before you book.
- We arrive on time. We bring the tools and the common parts most repairs need.
- We find the cause. We look for the reason behind the problem, so the repair lasts.
- We fix it. Most repairs are completed in the same visit.
- We test and clean up. We run the water, check for leaks and leave the kitchen or bathroom tidy.
What we fix and install
Faucets and taps. Dripping, leaking or stiff faucets repaired, and new kitchen and bathroom faucets installed.
Toilets. Running, leaking, wobbling or clogged toilets repaired, worn parts replaced, and new toilets installed.
Drains. Slow and clogged sinks, tubs and shower drains cleared.
Leaks. Leaks under sinks, at shut-off valves, on supply lines and on exposed pipes repaired.
Showers and tubs. Shower heads, tub spouts and handles replaced, and worn caulking renewed.
Appliance connections. Dishwashers and washing machines hooked up to existing water and drain lines.
Valves and supply lines. Old or seized shut-off valves and worn supply lines replaced.
Problems that shouldn't wait
Some plumbing issues get more expensive the longer they're left.
- Any active leak. Even a slow one can damage cabinets, floors and drywall, and lead to mould.
- A toilet that keeps running. It can waste hundreds of litres of water a day.
- A drain that keeps getting slower. It usually ends in a full blockage, often at a bad moment.
- Water stains on a ceiling or wall. They mean water is escaping somewhere above or behind.
- A shut-off valve that won't turn. You'll need it to work if a leak ever starts.
What to do before we arrive
A few simple steps can limit damage and make the repair faster.
- Turn off the water. Use the shut-off valve under the sink or behind the toilet. If you can't find it or it won't turn, use the main valve for the house.
- Catch the drip. Put a bucket or towels under a leak and move anything that could be damaged.
- Clear the area. Empty the cabinet under the sink or the space around the toilet so we can get to work right away.
- Don't use chemical drain cleaners. They rarely clear a real blockage, and they make the drain unsafe to work on.
- Have your new fixture ready. If we're installing something you bought, keep it in the box with all its parts.
Installing fixtures you've bought
Many of our plumbing visits are installations. You choose the faucet, toilet or shower head you like, and we remove the old one and install the new one properly. That includes new supply lines where needed, sealing, and testing for leaks. If you're not sure a fixture will fit your sink or space, send us the model before you buy and we'll tell you.
Why homeowners call The Man on Call
The Man on Call is a locally owned home services company based in Newmarket, serving homeowners across the GTA. We built the business on a simple idea: home maintenance shouldn't be a headache.
For plumbing, that means we show up when we say we will, explain what we found in plain language and tell you what the job will cost before we start. We don't push work you don't need, and we leave your home as clean as we found it.
Because we also handle repairs, drywall and painting, one call can cover the whole problem. If a leak damaged a wall or ceiling, we can fix the pipe, patch the drywall and paint it.
