Hanging something on a wall looks like a ten-minute job. Then you're holding a drill, guessing where the studs are and hoping the anchor holds. One wrong hole can mean a crooked shelf, a cracked wall or a TV that isn't safe above the couch.
A mounting and hanging service takes the guesswork out of it. This guide explains how the service works, what we mount, how different walls change the job, and how to prepare for your visit.
What our mounting service is, and what it isn't
We mount and hang items on your walls so they sit level and stay put. We bring the tools and the right hardware for your wall type, find the studs, agree the position with you and clean up afterwards.
We install the items and mounts you've already bought. We can tidy TV cables with a surface cover so they look neat, but we don't run power cables inside the wall. That is electrical work and needs a licensed electrician.
How the service works
- You call us. Tell us what you want mounted, roughly how big it is and what kind of wall it's going on.
- We give you an estimate. You'll know roughly how long the job will take and what it will cost before you book.
- We arrive on time. We bring a stud finder, levels, drills and a range of anchors and fasteners.
- We mark the position with you. Nothing gets drilled until you've seen the height and placement and agreed to it.
- We mount it. We fasten into studs where possible and use the correct anchors where it isn't.
- We check and clean up. We confirm everything is level and secure, then vacuum the dust.
What we mount and hang
TVs. Fixed, tilting and full-motion mounts for screens of all sizes, including above a fireplace.
Shelves. Floating shelves, bracket shelving and wall-mounted storage.
Mirrors and artwork. Heavy mirrors, framed art, canvases and full gallery walls.
Window coverings. Curtain rods, blinds and shades.
Hooks and rails. Coat racks, towel bars, robe hooks and bathroom accessories.
Wall-mounted cabinets. Bathroom cabinets, floating vanity shelves and garage storage.
Why the wall type matters
The wall decides how something should be fastened, and using the wrong method is the main reason things fall.
- Drywall. Strong when you fasten into the wooden studs behind it. Between studs, heavy items need rated anchors.
- Plaster. Common in older homes. It cracks easily and needs careful drilling and the right fastener.
- Brick and concrete. Very strong, but they need a hammer drill and masonry anchors.
- Tile. Needs a special bit and a slow approach to avoid cracking.
We check what's behind the surface before we drill and choose the hardware to match the wall and the weight.
Choosing the right TV height and mount
A TV mounted too high is the most common regret. For comfortable viewing, the centre of the screen should sit close to eye level when you're seated. Above a fireplace, a tilting mount helps correct the angle.
The mount matters too. A fixed mount keeps the TV close to the wall. A tilting mount reduces glare. A full-motion mount lets you pull the screen out and turn it, which is useful in open rooms or corners. Check that the mount is rated for your TV's size and weight. If you're not sure which to buy, tell us your TV model and wall type and we'll point you to the right kind.
How to prepare for your visit
- Have everything on site. The TV, the mount and all the hardware that came with them.
- Know roughly where you want it. We'll fine-tune the position together.
- Clear the area. Move furniture away from the wall so we have room to work.
- Think about cables. Check where the outlet is and whether you want a cable cover.
- Tell us about restrictions. If you rent or live in a condo, check the rules on drilling.
- List everything you want hung. Several items in one visit is the best use of your time.
Why homeowners call The Man on Call
The Man on Call is a locally owned home services company based in Newmarket, serving homeowners across the GTA. We believe small jobs deserve the same care as big ones.
For mounting and hanging, that means we show up on time, confirm the position with you before drilling a single hole, and tell you what the job will cost up front. We measure twice, protect your floors and furniture, and leave no dust behind.
Because we also assemble furniture and handle repairs, one visit can finish the whole room. We can build the media unit, mount the TV above it and patch the holes left by the old one.
