Every home has a corner where unwanted things collect. It might be the old couch in the basement, the fridge you replaced two years ago, or the pile of drywall and flooring left after a renovation. These items are too big for weekly garbage collection and too heavy to move alone. So they stay where they are, taking up space you could be using.
Junk removal solves that in a single visit. This guide explains how the service works, what we take, what we don't, and how to get the most out of your visit.
What junk removal is, and what it isn't
Junk removal is a full-service pickup for bulky items and large loads. A crew comes to your home with a truck, carries everything out, loads it and takes it away for donation, recycling or disposal. You don't lift anything.
It is not a replacement for your regular garbage pickup. We don't collect single bags of household trash, and we don't come by to pick up items one at a time. The service is built for jobs that need a truck and a crew: a room of old furniture, a garage that hasn't been cleared in years, or the debris from a renovation.
How the service works
- You call us. Tell us what needs to go and where it is in the house. Photos help.
- We give you an estimate. You'll know roughly how long the job will take and what it will cost before you book.
- We arrive on time. Our crew comes with a truck and the equipment to move heavy items safely.
- We do the lifting. We carry everything out from wherever it sits, whether that's the basement, the attic or the backyard.
- We haul it away. Your items are sorted for donation, recycling or disposal.
- We leave the space clean. We sweep up before we go, so the area is ready to use.
What we take
Furniture. Sofas, sectionals, mattresses, box springs, bed frames, dressers, desks, tables and office furniture.
Appliances. Fridges, freezers, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers and microwaves. This is especially useful after a replacement, when the old unit has nowhere to go.
Renovation and construction debris. Drywall, wood, flooring, tiles, old cabinets, countertops, doors and fixtures.
Clean-outs. Basements, garages, attics, sheds and storage rooms, including full clean-outs for a move, a sale or an estate.
Yard and outdoor items. Patio furniture, BBQs, old play structures and equipment.
What we can't take
Some materials need special handling and can't go in our truck. These include paint, chemicals, solvents, propane tanks, motor oil and asbestos. Your municipality has hazardous waste depots that accept these items, usually at no charge to residents. If you're unsure about something, ask us when you call.
How to prepare for your pickup
A little preparation makes the visit faster.
- Decide what goes. Walk through the house and make a list, or mark items with tape. This avoids decisions on the day.
- Group items if you can. You don't need to move anything heavy, but putting small loose items in boxes or bags saves time.
- Clear a path. Make sure hallways, stairs and doorways are free so we can carry large items safely.
- Empty appliances. Take food out of fridges and freezers, and disconnect them if you can. If you can't, we'll do it.
- Tell us about access. Let us know about narrow stairs, elevators, parking limits or condo booking rules ahead of time.
Where your junk goes
Not everything we pick up is waste. Furniture and household items in good condition can often be donated. Metal, appliances, cardboard and electronics are recycled wherever possible. Only what can't be reused or recycled goes to a disposal facility. Handling it this way keeps usable items in circulation and reduces what ends up in landfill.
Why homeowners call The Man on Call
The Man on Call is a locally owned home services company based in Newmarket, serving homeowners across the GTA. We built the business on a simple idea: home maintenance shouldn't be a headache.
For junk removal, that means we show up when we say we will, tell you what the job will cost before we start, and treat your home with care while we work. We protect floors and doorways when carrying heavy items, and we don't leave a mess behind.
Because we also handle repairs, installations and plumbing, one call can cover more than the pickup. If we remove an old appliance, we can install the new one. If we clear renovation debris, we can patch the drywall and paint.
